Quinta a Fonte

Bed & Breakfast

Bed en Breakfast Tavira Oost algarve boutique hotel natuur

‘Quinta a Fonte' is located less than 3 kilometers from the sea, in the middle of the hills of the quiet eastern Algarve. It is the perfect accommodation to use as a base to fully enjoy everything the Algarve has to offer: beautiful beaches, special walking and cycling, and picturesque fishing villages with delicious restaurants.

Our Bed & Breakfast is for adults only and consists of a renovated farmhouse with a modern extension. The renovation started in January 2022 and 4 private guest areas (one stylish, double room, two luxurious suites, and a unique villa) were created in the middle of an olive grove. The grounds comprise nearly 12,000 square meters that are full of distinct places to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. These include the swimming pool with sun deck, the old olive grove with comfortable seating areas, and the old water basin near the citrus grove. From the terrace of the outdoor kitchen, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the sun-drenched valley.

Accessibility is excellent. Faro airport is less than a 30-minute drive away and beautiful historic towns such as Tavira, Olhao, and Faro are in the immediate vicinity. Via the toll road, even the Spanish city of Seville is only a 2-hour drive, and you can reach the capital Lisbon within 3 hours.

Our respect for the environment and our love of nature with all its special life are reflected in the way we receive our guests. We do our best to combine luxury and comfort with attention to sustainability. For example, we make our own jam for breakfast, the chickens provide fresh eggs daily, and our green waste is converted into compost or chicken feed.

The construction was also carried out according to modern sustainability guidelines. We use low-temperature underfloor heating, we cool and heat our building with solar panels that meet most of our daily energy needs. With our solar-powered filter installation, we produce fresh drinking water from our water source and wastewater is processed to irrigate the olive trees.

We throw away little.  We try to use as little packaging material as possible and to recycle whatever we can.

We have been dreaming of our own place under the Portuguese sun for years.  It is important to us to share our special place with everyone who loves peace, nature, beautiful views, good food, sunbathing, and maybe a bit of sports such as walking, cycling, golfing, surfing, or swimming - above all enjoying life to the fullest.

While Steven mainly concerns himself primarily with the guests, Sven is responsible for the production of the orchard with hundreds of old and young olive trees, various citrus trees, and almond and fig trees.

Steven and Sven Portugal

Every day between 9:00 and 10:00, we serve a breakfast with regional products. Taste our homemade jam on locally made bread, our homemade yogurt, and the fresh eggs our chickens have given us. A nice start to the day!

Honesty Bar

The bar is filled with soft drinks, delicious wines, beers, gin, whiskey, and a selection of snacks. We think you’ll find everything you need to prepare a drink or even a cocktail at any time.

You record the consumption yourself on a registration card.

The Orchard

The B&B is located at the top of the valley with our own orchard with olive, citrus, fig, and almond trees.

The orchard offers a lovely place for a walk and the opportunity to discover natural beauty and even some wildlife.

There is a refrigerator in each of the guest rooms for your own drinks and food.

In the communal kitchen you can make unlimited use of the French press coffee, tea and filtered water facilities.

Towels and bed linen

We will change your bed linen once a week. Fresh towels are available daily upon request.

For a small €10 fee, you can borrow a set of beach towels with a parasol to take with you to the beach during your stay.

Swimming pool

The saltwater swimming pool near the rooms has sunbeds, lounge chairs, and umbrellas and is heated in spring and fall.

Would you like to cook for yourself during your stay? We have a well-equipped kitchen for shared use.

Please feel free to use these facilities.

The eastern Algarve has long, beautiful, white sandy beaches. For a special experience, by ferry through the nature reserve 'Ria Formosa' to one of the islands off the coast.

The lovely beach of Fuseta, including bars and restaurants is a 10-minute drive away.

Fishing and mountain villages

The most beautiful fishing towns are located along the entire coast, from bustling to sleepy.

Would you rather go into the mountains via the stone and marble quarries? There you come across mountain villages with breathtaking views.

The various (covered) markets with local offerings from farmers, fishermen. and beekeepers are certainly worth a visit.

Hiking & cycling

Especially in the cooler months, it is wonderful to discover one of the specifically designed walking and cycling routes. The routes through the nature reserve along the coast are recommended, and the routes through the mountains are also impressive.

 Ecovia de Litoral

Ecovia de Litoral is a 214-kilometer-long cycle route that extends along the coast.  We are happy to help with an address for rental bicycles.

It goes without saying that the Algarve is known for its seafood dishes. Fantastic fish, octopus, and shellfish. The traditional Portuguese cataplana and (very spicy) chicken "Frango Piri piri" should not be missed!

Note: We conducted some research  for our vegan guests and found a few excellent restaurants.

Golf, diving & surfing

In the immediate vicinity there are four 18-holes golf courses for the novice and experienced golfer.

There are also plenty of water sports to discover. The Algarve is known for its wonderfully calm sea in the east, ideal for kayaking and SUPing. Nearby, the bay of Fuseta is a perfect kitesurfing environment.

Five-star guided horse riding tour through the area’s plantations and nature reserves are also available

Wine and Olive Tours

The Algarve is known for its delicious wine. Wine was grown in this region as early as 2000 BC.

The many olive groves, palm gardens, and cork plantations are also definitely worth a visit. The internationally renowned olive producer Monterosa is a few kilometers away, and they are happy to show you around and teach you the intricacies of olive oil tasting.

Agriloga Tavira Algarve

We had a lovely time at Quinta a Fonte. This beautiful little property is surrounded by orange and olive farms and is only a short drive from many of the Algarve’s attractions as well as its amazing beaches. The villa we stayed in was beautifully appointed and had a bath tub and a picturesque view of the olive orchard. Steven and Sven were such great hosts, serving us a delicious breakfast each day and offering great recommendations for local attractions and restaurants. Will return in a heartbeat!
